They say you don't have to be a perfect parent, you just have to be good enough. Which begs the question, what is good enough? Is good enough yelling in frustration when the assholes saunter behind me while I'm on a video call or is good enough patiently explaining that work is important for our household funding and please respect my job? Is good enough scolding my son when he drops a glass because the loud noise startled the shit out of me or would good enough be patiently saying, 'Oh sweetie, are you ok?' Is good enough avoiding tucking my daughter into bed or is good enough cuddling her and tickling her back as she relives the day for the next hour?
They say you don't have to be the perfect partner, you just have to be good enough. And what does that mean? Is good enough avoiding speaking about the topic I know will make him mad or is good enough being strong enough to say what I want, even if it means a fight? Is good enough having sex because it's been so long and everything seems worse when we haven't had sex or is good enough standing firm in my boundaries that it repulses me and until this is resolved I just can't? Is good enough giving them what is important to them or is good enough standing up for what is important to me? Does my anxiety cause problems in marriage or is marriage intolerable because of my anxiety?
